Hiking & Camping In Mackay, Idaho

I lived for many years where the wild things are in Mackay, Idaho. It is a place with breathtaking scenery at every turn and filled with adventure and spirit! It's a magical place with genuine cowboys, wild horse herds, hiking, off roading, rodeos, coyotes, antelope wolves, bears, cougars, bald eagles, and the best trout fishing in the country!

If you are looking for a place to hang out in the wild this is a good spot. You can camp for free or nearly free at Pass creek or on the reservoir. It's primitive camping but there are many great hiking spots there. They also shoot fireworks over the reservoir for fourth of July. Just keep in mind that there are bears in the area and take precautions. This is still a pretty wild place. Stop into Ivies for snacks and food supplies! They always source local.
